I am SO glad I was able to get this hymnal brand new since it's out of print now. It's so difficult to find churches that even USE hymnals anymore but luckily, I attend one that uses this very book which is why I ordered it. So many modern churches seem to have replaced these beautiful hymns with utterly banal & insipid songs that make me feel like Gomer Pyle standing there listening to them. It's just a shame because I think it robs congregants of the true "food" these old hymns provide through their words... and... as if THAT weren't enough upon which to contemplate & be inspired, the scriptural readings interspersed within further enrich the worship experience, which sets the Celebration Hymnal apart from all the others. There's a nice variety of hymns & Christmas carols - all of which have uplifted & encouraged my spirits, & brightened my day after singing them. Because of that, I'm aiming to buy an electric keyboard so I can get back to playing the piano again, & then play them myself so I can enjoy & worship at home, too.

This hymnal is a mix of Reformation theology, Pietism, and mysticism. If you're a broad, fairly standard, American Evangelical, you'll love it. If you're a member of a more traditional Reformation church body, you'll probably find some serious issues with some of the theology that is sung. Some classic Lutheran/Reformed hymns. Some Pietistic/Methodist hymns. Some Bible-belt, Southern Baptist hymns. Some Revivalist hymns. It's a mixed bag. Not bad, but not great. I used it at church and with my family for years and could always find good songs to sing.

We have a gospel hymn book, a contemporary hymn book, the Lutheran green hymnal, a revised Lutheran blue hymnal, another collection of different worship hymns, and a collection of old popular hymns in our church library. I went through the index and was able to find a collection of the most used songs we use for choir. It is an amazing collection of songs. Another great thing is that it has the piano part so that altos, tenors, and bass can follow their part if they want. So many of the books I looked at only include the soprano or melody line. We absolutely got our money's worth!!!!!!! It also added some contemporary songs.

I bought my own copy after seeing someone else's copy of Celebration Hymnal. I was quite intimidated in my search to purchase by the multiple descriptions of the book. Still am not sure what is difference between 'ultimate tracks' and 'pew version' and different authors. (sorry if this should be obvious, but it isn't).This 'Ultimate Tracks' is a regular hard-backed hymnal containing songs both traditional and praise. As a pianist, I loved the inclusion of noting & suggestions to show how to transition/link from one song to another. I have not played piano in many years but have recently begun a job as our small church's pianist/organist. I found the majority of the songs easy to play for a medium-skill pianist. Some of the orchestrations are a bit beyond my means yet.I have used several as preludes/offertory/postlude playing. And more recently some ideas for our choir to use as Introits. Our music director loves "He Is Here".

I bought this because it was the only hymnal available on prime. I was making gifts for grandmothers. I tried to find songs that we all knew. I was familiar with maybe 1/3 of them (I grew up Assemblies of God, Penticostal), and I've been raised in church. It doesn't have some of the old hymns from my childhood, but it has most of them. So, mostly good, and glad that I could get it quick from Prime!

I love this hymnal, it has many new songs and also old songs. Many are written in lower keys, than other hymnals, which helps greatly since singing in lower keys seems to fit more congregations. I have nothing negative to say about this hymnal .

Also purchased for a relative, the elation from the authenticity of this book was well worth it. Excellent condition and exactly what we were looking for. If you are looking for items for a relative or family member that may enjoy collecting or reminiscing about different times this is a great find!

I am a Lutheran Church organist. The Hymnal for Worship and Celebration has been my first "go to" book for hymns not in the Lutheran hymnal. When I first started using it over 20 years ago, it was because of the instrumental books published for it. I had a small group of kids and adults who had instruments and wanted to play, so I was able to provide them with music at their levels and in the right keys. This current purchase of the Hymnal for Worship and Celebration was for a gift for a pastor at one of the churches I current play at. He has been looking for some alternative music sources and I thought he would appreciate it. I also purchased for him "Lead Me, Guide Me" (from GIA, I believe).

I really liked this book. I did not know the intriguing background of most of these cases. This book highlights some of the important legal history of our country. Large portions of the book were transcripts of opening or closing statements. As an attorney, I found this fascinating, but it might not be for everyone.

The first case was a case I had never heard of, and was happy to learn about the case. It would never happen now, but it was interesting to see how the Supreme Court went "down" to the state, Tennessee, to try a case at the state level. It was tried at the state level and then actually retried with witnesses, lawyers for both parties, and viewing evidence they would not normally see at the Supreme Court. I found this book, overall, to be a great book learning about closing arguments. It was not too long, and covered arguments in both the 1800s and 1900s. I truly enjoyed this book.I received my book on time and in the brand-new condition as advertised. I recommend this seller also.

I simply cannot heap enough praise. Oh...how I wished I had this audiobook - of nineteen disks - when I studied criminal justice and trial practice in law school.What makes this book extraordinary? The audiobook provides dramatic recreations of the great speeches before juries or stirring appellate arguments before the Supreme Court coupled with comprehensive and intelligent contextualization. The cases and arguments are explained within the framework of American history and jurisprudence. For example,in discussing the landmark case of Mapp v. Ohio which created theexclusionary rule for evidence obtained in violation of the Bill of Rights, the authors delve into the history of the Warren Court, the biographies of the justices, the social changes in the 1960's and the entire legal history of search and seizure from the days before the American Revolution to the time of the argument and beyond. Yes, it is the marvelous background and explanation that makes this a five star book. Thinking of a gift for that young adult who just took her LSAT or gained admission to an Ivy League law school? This is IT.

I have found this book helpful in many ways during my law school career. It is a wonderful book and very well put together. It relays the stories behind the closing arguments and you will not want to put it down. I used it in my Trial Advocacy course when writing my closing statement and I think you will find it useful even if you aren't in law school! It is so interesting!

Gift for my pre-law student granddaughter

This book reads like a book of short stories, each one describing a criminal trial. They don't all actually detail the closing arguments, but all are interesting. Lief provides plenty of background information to set the stage for the story, he introduces the attorneys and others involved in the case, and then tells the story, pointing out why the particular case is noteworthy. I plan on reading Lief's other two closing argument books too.

Many dull patches.

These are major criminal cases (closing args) that set judicial precedence in the United States. The audio-book is incredible, and so is the book.Note: You may/may-not enjoy this if you are not interested in the law. But even if you are not legally inclined, they do a good job of providing context for the judicial opinions of these great cases.My favorite cases:Mapp v. Ohio -- exclusionary ruleMiranda v. Arizona -- assertion of 5th and 6th ammendment rightsTrial of Aaron Burr -- Treason!
