I'm glad that "Airborne Andy" has so many great adventures on his motorcycle. Sounds like they are actually very interesting trips. However, I believe he should focus on his trips, and keep his writing to free online blogs instead of trying to make money from authoring books that he knows the riding community would want to read.First, this book severely lacks content. It's 120 pages in length, covering a 25 day motorcycle trip. Out of this, approximately half of it is very low-quality black and white pictures. Entire days, which would have covered wonderful scenery and curvy roads that could be described to those people that will never have the opportunity to ride to Alaska, are covered with just one or two paragraph of text about his riding and adventures on that entire day. Seriously? Isn't the idea of a book supposed to be bringing in the reader on the journey that the author is taking?Second, don't get this book for the photos. Many of these are of the same staged picture, of his DR650 sitting at the same angle and distance from the camera with a backdrop of scenery. If you want a book that covers some details about the D2D (Dust to Dawson) ride, or about the Dempster Highway, then there's some good info in here. However, other great riding roads the author took have the reader wanting more information...much more...about the experiences to be had and what is to be encountered. The Dalton Highway, one of the hardest roads in North America to ride, is woefully covered. The run through Atigun Pass happened so quick, that one doesn't get the feeling of actually going over the mountains. And the visit to the Arctic Circle sign seems like the author was simply at a regular stop at McDonald's instead of at one of the most famous motorcycle landmarks in the world.Others loved this book, and that's why I bought it...on their reviews. I found the writing to be very elementary in tone and comprehension, as if the author wrote this extremely quickly to try to turn out a book. In fact, the writing style reflects that of a poorly written web blog. This books needs to be properly edited, and the descriptive writing of the rides within the adventure vastly improved. Those with adventure riding experience are going to want much more "quality" out of this book. Luckily, it was not expensive at under six bucks shipped, but the point is that it just is not worthy of any amount of money. Interested readers can read entire blogs, be pulled into very large ride reports on advrider online, and save their money for more farkles or chrome for their bikes.I love a good adventure read; unfortunately this is not one of those. Very boring book, and I cannot recommend to anybody other than somebody maybe wanting a motorcycle-themed story to help their child learn how to read. That's too bad, because this type of book has so much potential and it achieved nothing close to what it could have been.

Really enjoyed reading this as we are about to embark on this journey to AK on motorcycles ths summer.

I couldn't put this book down. Airborne Andy is a lot of fun! Even if you don't ride motorcycles you'll love this book. I felt like I had gone on the adventure of a lifetime when I was finished. I only wish it was longer. A must read!

Nice journal of his adventure, entertaining. However, typos and "stream-of-consciousness" style make it obvious there was no editing. I was hoping to find a how-to guide for my planned trip, but except for "don't make this stupid mistake too" examples, it's not going to do that for he potential reader. HOWEVER, what it does is give a good gestalt of what life is like on the road in Alaska, which is a critical part of trip planning, and he price is right!

I really enjoyed this book. I have it in the Kindle version and is on my phone. I've read it twice now and still go back to some of the chapters from time to time.

very entertaining. glad to know i am not the only one that has such mishaps while riding

I enjoyed the read---but am not planning such a ride so I don't have much 'retention' (but that may not be the books fault).

A fun, insightful peek into Andy's head around his trip to Alaska. It shows what it takes to put together a "quick" trip and turn it into an adventure.

Written by Wes Moore, it is the story of two boys with the same name, coming from the same Baltimore streets, both missing their dads from a young age and growing up in a female-headed household as so many people do. But, one Wes Moore becomes very successful in every sense of the word - taking after Colin Powell, while the other becomes wrapped up in "the game" (i.e. the illicit drug trade) and is eventually locked up for a bank robbery. . The author (the successful Wes Moore) questions why? You may have heard the interview with the author on NPR, I did.The book is ultimately about destiny, whether it's our own self-expectations or other people's expectations that determine the output of our lives. It also goes a lot into the social injustice in America, both racial discrimination and poverty, the school system, and the havoc that crack has wreaked. I'm only halfway through and it's very well-written, switching between the two Wes stories. With the same name, it can be hard to remember which is which, but luckily there are other characters that place the story (like their friends, moms and siblings). And of course, once their lives start to diverge, it's quite easy to remember where you are at. The successful Wes Moore is quite an amazing person, one who traveled to South Africa and noted the differences and parallels. His paragraphs on the manhood initiation ceremonies were some of the most fascinating, making me think about the lack of male role models and formal coming-of-age ceremonies in the US. With all of Wes's accomplishments, including fighting along with the 82nd airborne in Afghanistan, and working for Condi Rice, and now as an investment banker - I wonder if he intends on following Barack Obama's footsteps and going into politics. There is a controversy about this book and it has to do with the family of the police officer who was killed. I learned about this on Amazon.com. My feeling is that the policeman dying is a great tragedy, and the other Wes Moore is no way excused from that - and is in fact serving out his life in prison for being involved. However, bringing to light the desperate circumstances that young men and women find themselves in and questioning how we can change the game, change the options, is a valid and noble goal. Maybe the next murders can be prevented. I think this book has the potential to become a classic in the genre of African-American stories, revealing the history of the late 20th century the way that other books have written about slavery, or the Jim Crow south or the civil rights movement. Because, on top of being an interesting and relevant topic, it's also very well-written and engaging. The end of the book has a long and comprehensive list of organizations, nonprofits and charities that could make a difference in the lives of people like those in this book.

Our son, who is a high school junior, was assigned 'The Other Wes Moore.' It seemed an opportune time for me to read the copy that was on my bookshelf. Our son and his older brother were adopted when they were three weeks old. They are African-American and my wife and I are Caucasian. We live in Maine which is as far removed from large inner-city slums as living in the Land of Oz. The urban environment describe in Mr. Moore's work about Baltimore and New York City are similar to the city our sons' birth-mom lived. Our two sons have three older siblings who were not given up for adoption and lived in such an urban hellhole. Therefore, you can imagine 'The Other Wes Moore' hits very close to home. Our son said to me he was acutely aware while reading Mr. Moore's book that it could easily have been him and his brother living in Baltimore or the Bronx with limited options and life-altering decisions. Please keep in mind these are friggin' kids, people. They are not even remotely equipped to emotional and intellectually handle such an environment. Man, most adults couldn't handle it.Passages of Mr. Moore's book made my stomach hurt. It is a wonderful example showing how the trope "pull yourself up by your own bootstraps" to rise out of poverty is pure B.S. The author clearly understands that he had an extended family who personally sacrificed in an effort to save him from being claimed by the streets. It does take a village. The other Wes Moore, however, was not so fortunate despite also being quite intelligent. 'The Other Wes Moore' is snapshots of events which occur between their early childhood in 1982 through to 2000. Mr. Moore writes in a sensitive manner and does a good job explaining the mood of the kids living in black slums as well as the enticements and many obstacles in their way. I grew up in a rural Maine paper mill town. Alcoholism was a big problem but, compared to what is portrayed in 'The Other Wes Moore', our small community had it made. Our country is littered with ghettos which are landmarks of generational racism towards minorities. Mr. Moore's book like other such works as 'There Are No Children Here: The Story of Two Boys Growing Up in The Other America' by Alex Kotlowitz effectively humanize the inner-city predicament. The challenges of living in slums are not someone else's problem. It's a national disgrace and requires a collective effort to rectify or at the very least ameliorate. The author did a public service by writing the book. I'm gonna go hug my sons.

Easy read. Enjoyable and sweet. Here and there, the story seems to just repeat itself and sort of hit a wall and just jump over it.Proof reader needs to give it another go too. Several mistakes.

good read

This is a retelling of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, set in the American West during the pioneer days.Williams doesn't make the mistake of trying to make it too exact a match. The American West isn't Regency England. There are wealthy ranchers and social-climbing mamas, but there isn't nobility, and a female marshal is certainly an outlier, but not an impossibility. And Mr. Bennett as a leather goods shop owner is respectably middle class, not beneath notice as merely being "in trade."Among my favorite changes to the characters and story are William and Charlotte Collins. In Austen's work, Mr. Collins is contemptible and only to be sniggered at, while Charlotte's decision to marry him is cast as pragmatically understandable, but really a clue to a serious character flaw. Those aren't the Collinses we meet here. Both Liza and Janie have somewhat more complicated personal histories than in Austen's work, and I like it.Overall, of course, the book doesn't rise to Austen's level, but it's both a fine homage, and enjoyable in its own right.Recommended.I borrowed this book from the local public library.

Sweet, squeaky clean romance that could have been improved by more careful editing. Lots of "he loves me/loves me not" angst. Vocabulary is clean and simple enough for young audiences. Very mild violent episode relating to a train robbery...nothing gruesome. Light reading for a dreary day.

Romance, clean; periodCute Western adaptation and retelling of "Pride and Prejudice". Clean romance, quick read. Fun and light. Read this as part of the "Big Library Read". Nice to be able to get it from my local library for this read. This has many of the familiar elements of the originals, but instead of landed gentry, they are ranchers and shop keepers. A few variations from the original, but fit nicely in with the setting and Western adaptation of this novel. Light quick read, nothing incredibly meaty, but still fun.

I wasn't expecting to like this book, but I was curious since it was the Big Library Read for this month. And I do like Jane Austen adaptations. It was very cute. Much more fast paced than Austen, such is contemporary vs. classic fiction, but a fun read. I liked the way Darcy and Bingley were written - Austen only let us in on what the women were thinking and it's helpful to glimpse the motivations of the men rather than only seeing their pride. I also appreciated that Collins was already married (he is by far my least favorite part of Pride and Prejudice). While we all knew how this would end, the changes were amusing, particularly how everyone needed to be nursed back to health at some point in the story (not just Jane) and the intriguing backstories for each character.

What a fun story. I got this because it was part of The Big Library Read program. There are 2 different romances going on in the story and you get 4 different perspectives. This was not my first story by Lacy. Danna from a previous story is in this one. A clean, historical romance.

I got this ebook through the public library in my tiny town of just over 4,200 population. So nice to not have to get in a 120 degree car to go get books and return them.I enjoyed the book but just wish there had been a better job of editing. There were times I was confused about what was going on in the book and then figured out that there was an editing error. Even with the error it is still worth reading. Very clean book.
