Gr 3 Up—A busy profusion of 100 small aircraft, trains, bikes, automobiles, and ships zoom across eight cardboard fold-out pages in this quasi-book product that also works as a six and a half-foot poster. Intended as "a visual history of modern transportation," the eclectic assortment of vehicles from more than 200 years range from the 1801 Nautilus to 2010's SpaceShipTwo and the giant cruise ship Allure of the Sea. They march across the long spread of pages somewhat chronologically and by type, with air transport at the top and water craft at the bottom. Occasional anomalies interrupt the flow; a train appears between a motorcycle and an automobile rather than up in the train line, for instance. Images are realistic in color and proportion with a fair amount of detail, given their small size, and they are labeled by name and year. The back side of the foldout contains brief bits of information on the vehicles over white silhouettes on blue background. Some small statements mention specific design or mechanical features. Folded inside the back cover are two pages of short explanations of "Ten Things That Got Us Moving Faster." The personal selection of vehicles leaves many gaps and omissions in the history, though the broad inclusion of countries is welcome. The stacked layout provides some interesting views of varied modes of transport sharing approximate time periods. This book is amazing! It's a giant foldout on thick cardstock (not quite "hardcover" as it's listed, arranged in time-line fashion from early transportation to modern. Pictures on one side and corresponding text on the other, along with a fascinating list of 10 technologies that changed transportation. I got it from the school library and loved it so much I got a copy for the classroom, and a crowd always gathers around whomever is reading it! (I teach 2nd and 3rd graders) I've become convinced that well-organized, well-presented and engaging material is more important to getting kids interested in nonfiction reading than anything else, and this book definitely fits the bill. this book does have to be folded up in a certain way, so it goes on the special shelf with popups and other easy-to-mangle books. probably not for kids much younger than 2nd, either content or care-wise, but older kids, even adults will like it.

This is such a neat book! I know my five year old son will enjoy it!

It unfolds displaying a visual timeline that is just over six feet in length. On one side you'll find detailed illustrations of planes, trains, autos, etc. and on the reverse side is a little information about each design. If you are interested in the evolution of transportation and the designs of cutting edge vehicles, trains, planes, bikes and ships then you'll want to display this fold out someplace in your home, office, or classroom.Offering a feast for the eyes there's so much to take in here you'll spend quite a bit of time taking it all in. Also notice how the author/illustrator arranges his work by time periods as well as types of transportation. This may be aimed at a young audience but many adults will love this book too.Book provided by publisher.

I cannot speak highly enough about this book. I used it to transition my career from non profit accounting to Government Accounting when I accepted a position at a County division as Chief Fiscal Officer. It is a clear, concise book that gives you a good foundation for Government Accounting. I have purchased 2 copies, one for myself and one for new accountants that I have hired into my department. It is a great reference book.

Helpful book about government accounting. I had to write a ten-page paper on the subject and this was a great find for the purpose.

I'm not sure where he gets the "easy," but it did help. Unfortunately for me, my governmental accounting professor wrote the textbook AND writes the governmental questions for the CPA exam, so asking her to clarify anything doesn't really work. It helped to have things explained in different terms, but I would not call this easy. HOWEVER, that being said, I would recommend this book to anyone studying for the CPA exam who did not take a governmental accounting class.

Not a bad book for a beginning Governmental accounting book. I had no true "accounting" background when I started my job with a government agency, but had done bookkeeping for other businesses using just basics and common sense. It was definately different. This book helps guide you through all the different aspects of governmental accounting. It's very dry reading, but very imformative. You can actually find what you are looking for in the index and go right there and get the info you need quickly. I do recommend it to anyone getting in that type of accounting

About the first half of the book was easier to understand. Then it just stopped making sense probably because of the nature of the topics. Though I was maybe expecting something for "dummies" book. There's not a lot of choices out there to compete, so this might be okay though a textbook might actually be better if you want to understand the more technical side.

I needed a detailed explanation of government accounting in preparation for a civil service exam. I have very little governmental accounting experience and the last class taken on this subject was approx. 30 years ago. The author provides you with the background of governmental accounting, basics of the accounting concepts, fund accounting, financials, reporting entities and other topics. I had many "ah ha" moments as I read this book. I am happy to report that I got an 86 on the test.

The book covers accounting for local, city and state type accounting. I am new to the federal accounting system and was looking for a book to help understand it better. No luck here.

Government accounting i.e. fund accounting is not only a scam but a nightmare, however, this book breaks it down to the core so it's a great companion to anyone either taking a governmental accounting course or someone needing to understand what the heck is going on in bizzaro world on the fly.About 2 years ago I wrote a review on another book (Accounting for Governmental & Nonprofit Entities 14th Edition - Wilson, Kattelus, Reck) which was a total nightmare but this book helped me survive the course with the only A in the class. The book breaks the fund system down into fund categories and how they interrelate with each each other through cycles (how assets, inflows, outflows, and other transactions are presented, recorded, and accounted for in all stages)Good road-map for this accounting mess
