Andrew Grey has put a lot of his good stuff in here, so much so that he completely forgot to create a really serious, knockdown, violent crises. In fact, he brings a sense of community continuity here with the use of Darryl and Billy's Café Belgie (from the "Taste of Love" series) as a wonderful bridge in the lives of Jonah and Luka, another incongruous pair of lovers in the Grey mould.This is a loving, unique, sweetly moving story where you have to stop after every chapter and whisper, or whine, "awwww." Jonah is torn between his new inheritance and his insta-love Luka, and Luka is a deeply honest and guilt-ridden Bosnian immigrant who needs to take care of someone, and now that Jonah's uncle Samuel has passed, he gets his wish. Based on that cover, we should all be so lucky!Awwwww.Loved this one, a rocking chair or hammock read (or anywhere else). A triumph of understated peace and quiet and a very good love story as well.

When you read the blurb that this is a story about someone inheriting a cemetery, I wondered how this story could possibly keep my interest. It not only kept it, I started and finished this book in one continuous sitting, I was that intrigued. Coming back to Carlisle, the familiar setting for Andrew Grey’s books, was comforting. The inclusion of the cafe was also good. The twist and turns of this story dealt with not only family shunning and secrets, but hope a joy in the newness of starting over. Great read that I recommend to all.

Jonah’s journey to find his place in the world, get to know his diceased Uncle Samuel, and let himself love Luka is beautiful to behold. Luka is amazingly caring. The book is set in Carlisle, PA so we meetup with favorite characters and places from past books. Their love is gentle but powerful, it blooms instantly and intensely. They truly see each other. Then Jonah must figure out what he really wants out of his life. Everyone must read this love story.

This is a workmanlike effort. We meet Broadway actor Jonah who has just learned that the play he is currently performing in has been closed after a 2 week run. He returns home to his apt to find a letter from an attorney and finds he is the beneficiary of an uncle he hasn't seen in over 10 years. He takes the train to PA and finds he has inherited something he never dreamed of and something he has.

I was a bit underwhelmed by this book. It plodded along with little of anything happening other than the MCs staring at each other until they hooked up. It wasn't a very plausible story-line, either. I also expected better editing and proofreading for a full price book. Kind of disappointed.

If you never read another love story in your life... read this one !! I am more than pleased that I did. And I think I found an author to adore!

This one was a hot to read. Once I started, I didn't want to put it down. The story felt real with the characters could be about anyone.

Loved this book. I like all of his books, but this one was especially great. Take away for me from the story was to make the most of your life and be true to yourself.

This is what happens when two great authors decide to create a world together! One amazing adventure! I've had high expectations and they were all fulfilled. I absolutely loved this story!This is an incredibly exciting and suspenseful story situated in a gritty, unpleasant, old world overrun by vampires and pirates, and even worse - vampire pirates. I was glued to the pages from beginning to the end and I finished it in one go. And I should immediately mention the abrupt ending that left me in shock and dying for the next book. The characters are quite interesting, especially Lavinia, the main protagonist of this story, and the focus around which everything revolves. It is amazing how the authors slowly reveal her uniqueness detail by detail. Then there is Jameson, he is quite special as well. But Pierce, Lavinia's betrothed, is something else, a new breed of maliciousness and evil. He was without a doubt one of my favourite characters of the story. Fantastic villain who adds so much suspense to the story, well done.This is one of those amazing stories one just gets addicted to. It is not about the characters as much as it is about the story and the need to know what happens. Forget about romantic depictions of vampires and prepare to be horrified by them!  These are not standalone novels and they only make sense if read in order. Reading order is the following: Crimson Horizon (Blood of the Sea Book 1), Pale Horizon (Blood of the Sea #2), and Obsidian Horizon (Blood of the Sea #3) coming soon.

Totally loved this book, the plot, the world it creates, the twists and truns in every chapter will keep you reading, Lavinia, the FMC, is so awesome, she lost everything, but her inner strength is so powerful, she keeps fighting and overcoming every obstacle in her way, but there is a mystery sorrunding her life, as she doesn't remember anything about her childhood and her late parents... And that ending... Will it be the answer at her strange condition???... Pirates, vampires, romance, friendship, loyalty, love... Can't wait for book 2 to continue this journey and find some answers!!! 🤓

I am in love with everything in this book. The only thing I wish, is that it was longer. I can't wait for the next book!Okay so why the 4 star? Well it has to do with the MC, I wasn't that big a fan of hers at the start of the book. I don't know, something about her, irked me, and it took me a bit to start to like her as the MC, and well as a growing major character of this book and future series. But outside of that, I loved the detail, the world building and I loved the way the story flowed and connected.This book was such a fun and engaging read, and I believe one that I have been waiting for. It kept my attention till the end and left me wanting more. I loved this start to a unique series about vampires, and pirates, and...wait for it...vampirates! The main character Lavinia finds out that the tales she was told as a child about blood-drinkers were true when her home is attacked in the middle of the night. With a little help from her crush Jameson, she flees from her island and tries to figure out a way to save herself and her new friends. I enjoyed that the book completed a full storyline but left me hanging a little in anticipation of the next book. Thank goodness the next book releases soon!

Omg wow!!!!!! Heather and Lela wrote an incredible book about vampires, pirates and hunters especially pirates as vampires!! The main female character Lavinia is a strong fearless woman!! Jameson all I can say WOAH!!!!!! The romance between them two is amazing and all the danger and mystery in this book makes you not able to put this book down!! The Cliffhanger ughhhhhhh!!!!

This book had a little bit of everything, vampires, pirates, vampire pirates, some slow burning romance, danger, mystery, heart-pounding action, and one unforgettable heart-stopping ending that left me craving more!Definitely a must read and thankfully there's not too long of a wait for the next one!

Holy cow I just loved this story!! Lavinia character definitely grew into herself the more the book progressed. Can't wait to see what happens between Jameson and her and how she grows more into herself in the next book. Most definitely left off on a cliff hanger.

I found this to be a good read. The world building was interesting and the twisty layered plot is intriguing, I just found it slow in some areas. The characters are ok, some are likeable from the beginning, others take a while to warm up to- at least for me.

I recommend this book for rail buffs and model railroaders who have an interest in the Southern Pacific Railroad, Texas or San Antonio railway history It also covers other rail lines of the area. This book has some great little seen photos of the railroads running into and out of San Antonio. I regret I didn't find this book sooner.

As a youngster growing up in Texas, 1947-1959, aged seven to nineteen, I had two Aunts who taught school at Comstock, Texas. Originally named Sotol City, the name was later changed and named after John B. Comstock, a dispatcher for the Southern Pacific Railroad. First located at Cow Creek crossing the town was later moved to be closer to a small lake which was to be the town's water supply. When the first Pecos River High Bridge was completed in March 1892, the rail line was moved up and out of the Devils River, Rio Grande River and Pecos River canyons. The earlier route in the canyons had been the preferred choice in order to maintain a reasonable grade that the locomotives of the time could handle. Some short tunnels had been necessary also. The terrain in this part of Val Verde County, Texas, was extremely rugged and dotted with these river canyons and also those of many draws and creeks that were most often just dry beds. But experience had shown that sudden flash floods could be devastating. The first railroad station building at Comstock, pictured in this book, was constructed around 1900 after the new bridge and the railroad's realignment. My first visit to my Aunts and to the area was around 1950. Thanks to these Aunts as school teachers I was already an avid reader and was generally aware of the rail road's activities in the area. There were also many picture post cards of these rail road bridges and other bridges in the area. As the main southern transcontinental rail road route the second Pecos High Bridge had been completed in 1944 as the older bridge could not continue to handle the weight of the modern trains. Further, movement of military personnel and equipment was critical during this period. I wanted to see this bridge. From U.S. Highway 90, just west of it's crossing of the Pecos River and canyon on a lower level highway bridge, the upper portion, just the truss structure, was visible from a view point. This of course to me was not satisfactory. I wanted to see the entire bridge. However such access was available only from private ranching property and a lengthy drive on gravel, stone and dirt roads. Sheep and angora goat ranches in this part of Val Verde County are huge, measured in sections rather than acres. One section is 640 acres. Permission to go on this property was necessary. Since my Aunts were acquainted with the land owners involved, such access was not too difficult. And a young man and former student of my Aunt's was recruited to drive our automobile. At my young age the actual sight of this bridge was thrilling. All of the steel work from the original bridge had been removed in 1949, but, the original stone and granite pillar footings were remaining on the floor of the canyon. In the 1954 flood event the railroad bridge easily withstood the flood waters, but, the original 1929 U.S. Highway 90 bridge just downstream had been destroyed with a temporary low water crossing bridge erected in it's place. The highway wound down the sides of the canyon to this bridge, just above the normal level of river flow. In 1955, I was again thrilled to be able to make this drive as I now had my Texas Drivers License. A high bridge over the Pecos River Canyon for this highway was later constructed and built above the level of any major flooding. From 1950 until 1972, when my Aunts retired at Comstock I made regular trips to visit, usually at least twice a year, some years more. Sadly, I have not returned since that time.

As a practicing nurse for over 18 years, author Wendy Cohan uses her training, professional observations and personal experience to describe symptoms, diagnosis, and pharmaceutical, surgical and alternative treatments for headaches.The book is for readers that suffer from tension, migraine, chronic and other types of debilitating headache pain. Emphasis is placed on discovering headache triggers, prevention, minimizing pain, treatment of headaches, and when to seek professional help.A glossary, resource list, an extensive bibliography organized by chapter topic, and index is included. The "weekly headache diary", provided in the appendix as a template in which to record contributing factors, pain scale, symptoms, medication taken, and etc., to isolate triggers.

Wendy Cohen's book is a very thorough compilation of good information, resources, ideas, and options for getting to the bottom of your headache conundrums. I found it helpful to understand what the medical establishment's current knowledge is about classifications and effective treatments of the various headache types, how they can manifest differently due to gender and age, and also have information integrated from alternative approaches. This booked helped me organize my history, rule out options, and plan for a discussion with my doctor on adjusting my treatment plan to move forward toward solutions. While I haven't completed unraveling the mysteries of my headaches, I feel like this book has given me a more informed stance to work from. It has validated my efforts over these past many years and given me hope that I WILL narrow in to the most effective options for managing these unfortunate afflictions.

Now this is a book I have needed most of my life! Wendy Cohan knows her "stuff". From describing types of headaches, to causes, finding help, and mostly giving hope, this books ROCKS!The section on alternative and complementary therapies is just another example of Ms. Cohan's knowledge on cutting-edge treatments.For me, diet plays a huge role in my headaches. In the past, many of my doctors did not even consider food as a trigger. I will keep this book on my desk and recommend it to friends and family and anyone facing problem headaches.
